WASHINGTON, La. ( KLFY ) — Two men were arrested and charged with drug and weapons offenses after a traffic stop Thursday in Washington, La., authorities said.

Vondrick Keon Jimmerson, 24, of Morrow and Ladrius Montaye Leblanc, 25, of Opelousas were in a vehicle pulled over Thursday evening for speeding, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

“Narcotics detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office were conducting traffic enforcement on the 600 block of Dry Bayou Road when a traffic stop was initiated on a 2006 GMC pickup truck for driving 53 miles per hour in a 20 miles per hour speed zone,” Guidroz said.

Upon approaching the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jimmerson, detectives smelled an overwhelming odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle, authorities said.  Detectives then detained the driver and the front passenger, identified as Leblanc.

Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle based on the smell and found approximately 2.7 pounds of marijuana, one 9mm Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol and $2,425 in cash.
