Beaufort County Schools is asking community members for suggestions on what to name the new Pre-Kindergarten through third grade elementary school planned for Washington.

Members can fill out a form by clicking here , by going to the school district’s Facebook page or by going to the school district’s website at https://www.beaufort.k12.nc.us/

In early February, the school district was awarded a $42 million needs based grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to construct a new elementary school in Washington. The new school will combine Eastern Elementary and John Cotten Tayloe Elementary. The 135,000 sq. ft. facility is planned to open by the 2026-2027 school year and serve approximately 1,000 students.

It will be built on land behind Eastern Elementary School. The school district has not said what will happen to the elementary schools once the new one is built.
