Beaufort County Schools has shared details of a senior prank gone too far at Washington High School.

On May 29, 47 PamPack seniors (identified to date) entered the school with a key. The students were able to enter the building without making a noise, because the “alarm was not properly set.”

The students vandalized hallways, classrooms and the cafeteria; however, there is an active investigation into the amount of damage that was done. Before and just as school started the following day, Washington High School staff and the District Maintenance Team cleaned the campus.

Beaufort County Schools confirmed that “significant damage” was done to school property. There were “broken cafeteria tables, writing on the hallway walls and windows, paint and trophy areas damaged by raw eggs.” A quick internet search will show that cafeteria tables can be anywhere from $1,200 to $3,300 a piece. The school system is still calculating how much repairs will cost.

Participating seniors will be subject to Board Policy 4300 Section D. Item 1K which states that they will be excluded from graduation ceremonies. Washington High School’s graduation ceremony is planned for  Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m. at Choppy Wagner Stadium. Seniors who participated in the prank will still graduate, Beaufort County Schools said.

They added that participating students may “potentially” face criminal charges, and “potentially” have to pay restitution. An amount has not been set at this time.
