WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The City of Washington continues to work on a project that’s meant to improve the downtown area.

City officials say they are gathering input now for phase two of their Streetscape project. They say the first phase was successful in creating growth on Main Street in the town. Now, they’re hoping phase two will bring even more people downtown.

“What we’re looking at is the aesthetics of how it’s gonna look,” said Washington City Manager Jonathan Russell. “We’re trying to conserve parking spaces so that is at a premium downtown. So we want to make sure that we’re trying to be as conscious of that as possible, but also how we’re treating pedestrian traffic as well as bicycle traffic.”

The city has a survey open online with several suggestions for the areas around Main Street.
They are also planning to host public input sessions to hear from community members.
