WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The city of Washington had an intermittent discharge of untreated wastewater Sunday through Monday morning.

The pump station at 2650 W. Fifth Street near the intersection of Highway 264 and Page Road experienced power failure, causing roughly 15,000 gallons of untreated wastewater to spill. An estimated 14,000 gallons has potential to reach Mitchell Branch in the Tar-Pamlico River Basin.

Upon discovery of the pump station malfunction, city workers were able to fix it within 10 minutes. Cleanup efforts went on through the day Monday. The power interruption has been repaired.
