Washington State DOT opens applications for Sustainable Aviation Grant program

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division recently opened the application period for the newly created Sustainable Aviation Grant program.

The program funds sustainable aviation projects such as electric ground equipment, hydrogen electrolyzers and storage, hangar charging technology, and mobile battery charging technology.

The program is open to any airport authority, city, county, federally recognized Indian tribe, individual, political subdivision, or public corporation that owns and operates a public-use airport included in the Washington Aviation System Plan.

Interested applicants must fill out the Sustainable Aviation Grant program application. The application includes information on how to apply. Applicants must refer to the airport aid application checklist for potential supporting documentation to be submitted with the application, and are required to submit airport aid grant assurances with the application.

The application deadline is Aug. 16.

WSDOT will evaluate projects based on multiple criteria including environmental benefits to overburdened communities and vulnerable populations; reducing environmental health disparities; reducing a reliance on fossil fuels; reducing the harmful effects of aviation-related emissions, and advancing sustainable aviation technology and creating future innovation.

WSDOT will submit to the state legislature a prioritized list of projects recommended for funding.

The legislature will award grants after July 1, 2025.
