Social Security update: July direct payment worth $943 goes out in 14 days

Supplemental Security Income recipients are scheduled to receive their monthly checks , worth up to $943 for individual filers, in 14 days.

The SSI payment from the Social Security Administration will be issued to eligible citizens on July 1. The SSA mandates that benefits must be delivered to recipients by the first day of the month.

Because recipients must get their checks by the 1st of the month, when it falls on a weekend or a holiday, the SSA issues SSI checks the business day prior. That will occur for payments scheduled for September and December.

The amount SSI checks are worth depends on a beneficiary’s status, with individuals getting monthly $914 payments and eligible couples receiving $1,415 payments per month. Essential persons, people who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, get monthly payments of $472 from the program.

SSI payments were first issued by the SSA in January 1974, with payment rates increasing for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.

SSI payments are different from regular Social Security payments or other checks offered by the SSA.
