President Joe Biden officially announced that he would not continue his 2024 reelection campaign on Sunday, causing a shockwave across left-liberal media outlets.

Biden announced he would not continue his reelection bid in a statement shared on Sunday, and gave his endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris . CNN’s Van Jones , a friend of Biden, compared the news to a grandfather who is forced to give up his car keys, calling it “a human moment” for Biden.

“But if you‘re a young person watching this, this is leadership, this is patriotism,” Jones said, who spoke very emotionally. “This is what it means to put the country first and put the party first and put the cost first. When your arm gets tired, you let somebody else finish pitching the game. That‘s what Joe Biden has done, and he‘s done that for all of us.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow also weighed into Biden’s decision, stating that the president being underestimated is his “superpower,” and that this is why he was so ardent in rejecting calls to drop out. However, she contended that Biden dropping out gives the United States “a chance” at not letting former President Donald Trump win the 2024 election.

“I’m just blown away by the sacrifice and the patriotism that this moment embodies,” Maddow said.

Joe Scarborough, MSNBC host of Morning Joe, provided his own thoughts via a phone call, stating that the Democratic Party can “definitely” unite behind Harris in the 2024 election. He added that an effective campaign strategy for Harris would be to fall back on her experience as a prosecutor.

Regarding who Harris could select as her vice presidential candidate, Scarborough argued that she should look to swing states like Pennsylvania or Michigan and get a lawmaker from these states as her running mate. He added that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) would “automatically” win Michigan for Harris.

Beyond cable news, many have taken to X to reflect on Biden’s decision, including billionaire Bill Ackman, who contended that Harris not being the presidential nominee would be “an acknowledgement that she was never qualified to be vice president.” Fellow billionaire Mark Cuban, who said he would be voting for Biden over Trump during a visit to the White House , reacted to the news by writing “Father time is undefeated.”

Calls for Biden to drop out of the 2024 election grew exponentially after the first presidential debate, which many argued was a poor performance by the president. Numerous lawmakers and even celebrities like George Clooney were a part of these calls.
