Vice President Kamala Harris ’s 2024 campaign is seeking to avoid overstuffing the Democratic National Convention with celebrities to avoid making it seem like a "Hollywood liberal elite" event.

The four-day event, scheduled to begin Aug. 19 in Chicago , will be selective over which celebrities it chooses to invite. The report comes after the party has had a history of doing events with major celebrities, including one in June with actors George Clooney , Julia Roberts, and Jack Black while President Joe Biden was still seeking reelection.

The Democratic Party’s move to limit the celebrity appearances at the DNC comes after Harris selected Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her 2024 running mate, with the two certified as the party’s 2024 presidential ticket this past week . Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) praised Harris’s pick as a uniter for “not just the Democratic Party, but for the entire United States.”

With the DNC coming up shortly, a few Democratic senators are opting out of the event , all of whom are in hotly contested seats in the November elections. They include Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jon Tester (D-MT), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV). Rosen did attend a Harris-Walz rally in Las Vegas on Saturday.
