If you like giving government handouts to illegal immigrants, then you will love the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Throughout his tenure as governor, Tim Walz (D-MN) has put illegal immigrants before America's middle class.
Walz created a program that provides free, taxpayer-funded college for illegal immigrants. He also made illegal immigrants eligible for government-subsidized health insurance . Both programs exclude many of the state's hardworking legal residents.
In May 2023, Walz signed an education bill into law that contained a provision called the North Star Promise Scholarship. It made state colleges and universities tuition-free for Minnesota families earning under $80,000 annually . That includes illegal immigrants who attended a Minnesota high school for at least three years and have either a high school diploma or a GED from a school in the state.
Minnesota has a median household income of $90,390 per year, according to Statista , making the state's average middle-class family ineligible for the program. Yet, the state will put tens of thousands of dollars toward paying for illegal immigrants' college degrees. Meanwhile, middle-class families work overtime and make personal sacrifices to afford their children's education — and pay for the college education of illegal immigrants on top of it.
Walz also signed a bill into law in May 2023 that will make illegal immigrants eligible for MinnesotaCare , the state's Medicaid program, which offers free and subsidized health insurance to residents at 200% of the federal poverty level and below. That includes residents making up to $30,120 per year or families of four with an income of up to $62,400 annually.
Notice how this law offers no help to the average middle-class family, let alone the state's working poor. However, like the free college program, it makes Minnesota an attractive magnet state for illegal immigrants.
If you are an illegal immigrant, why wouldn't you move to Minnesota to capitalize on these government handouts? After all, the state even provides illegal immigrants with driver's licenses , thanks to another bill Walz signed into law.

Unfortunately, the Walz strategy of giving illegal immigrants free stuff won't secure the southern border. It will do the opposite. That is especially true when coupled with the weak border policies of liberals such as Vice President Kamala Harris , who has expressed support for decriminalizing illegal border crossings and compared Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the Ku Klux Klan.
If Democrats were serious about border security, they would never allow someone such as Walz on a presidential ticket. His policies help fuel illegal immigrants' demand to come to the United States.
