Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) argued that former President Donald Trump could easily win the 2024 election against Vice President Kamala Harris if he sticks to criticizing her policies rather than making personal attacks against her.
Former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley , who ran against Trump in the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential primary, argued last week that the former president needs to “quit whining” about Harris and that simple labels on the Democratic candidate will not sway voters. Sununu, who supported Haley in the primary, agreed with the former U.N. ambassador, suggesting that any Republican who is not Trump would probably be ahead of Harris “by 10 points.”
“And so the message is very clear: if you stick to the issues, if you stick to what matters, this should be an easy race for Donald Trump. It really should,” Sununu said on CNN’s State of the Union.
Sununu explained that Trump is doing better with male voters in polling data but is down by “10, 12 points at least” among female voters ever since Harris entered the 2024 race. He predicted this voting block would come out “in much bigger numbers” this November if President Joe Biden were still seeking reelection against Trump.
As such, the New Hampshire governor advised Trump to remind voters that he is running against “the most liberal and most unpopular vice president in history.” He also noted how Harris selected a very liberal running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), as her vice presidential candidate, and that the 2024 race is shaping up to be “a huge Republican win” in the coming months.
“He‘s got to deliver, and we‘ve all showed him exactly that playbook to do so,” Sununu said. “If he can get it together in the last sixty days, he can. And remind folks that they, as individuals, they‘re more important than the government.”

This week will see the Democratic National Convention be held in Chicago , with Sununu arguing it will be “a great opportunity” for Trump. The governor argued that Chicago is not a very safe city, and that Republicans can point to the DNC being hosted in this city and argue “this is what the Democrats highlight.”
Similar to Sununu and Haley, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has advised Trump to “stop questioning” the legitimacy of Harris’s campaign crowds , and instead stick to criticizing the about-face she has made on various topics. Trump has accused Harris of using artificial intelligence to manipulate the size of her crowds, though the Harris campaign has confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the photo Trump referenced was taken by the Harris campaign and was not altered by AI.
