The Democratic National Convention is tapping into the party's star power, bringing in several celebrities to make appearances and conduct events throughout the week.

Actor Tony Goldwyn, commentator Ana Navarro, actress Mindy Kaling, and actress Kerry Washington will host different nights of the event, in that order, CNN reported . They will serve a role similar to an award show, giving opening remarks and then reappearing onstage throughout.

Washington, who has her own political nonprofit organization, will introduce Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday when she accepts the Democratic nomination.

Kaling showed support for Harris during her failed 2020 primary bid, featuring her in a cooking video in which the two cooked an Indian dish and discussed Harris's Indian heritage.

Navarro identifies as a Republican, saying she became a lifelong Republican after President Ronald Reagan supported the controversial Contras in her home country of Nicaragua. Despite this, she has endorsed almost all Democrats and Democratic positions since former President Donald Trump entered the political scene. She has voiced strong support for gun control , LGBT rights , the teaching of critical race theory , drag performances for children , and abortion .

Goldwyn, grandson of the film pioneer Samuel Goldwyn, is a longtime Democratic supporter.

Hollywood is known for leaning to the left, giving the DNC a clear edge over the Republican National Convention in terms of star power. Nevertheless, the RNC boasted several major celebrities, including wrestling star Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Fighting Championship founder Dana White, singer Kid Rock, and singer Amber Rose.

Though hosted by celebrities, the convention will still focus on political speakers, such as President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
