    Gas prices: Decreases at the pumps continue into the work week

    Gas prices dropped again on Tuesday with the average price for a gallon of regular gas decreasing to $3.404. This was a drop from Monday’s price of $3.411 per gallon.

    Prices are slightly less expensive than a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.444. Prices are also cheaper than from a month ago when the national average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.504.

    Gas prices remain a vital topic heading into the 2024 presidential election . With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris , now the Democratic presidential nominee, will have to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

    While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

    Washington, D.C.

    The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday is $3.658. This is quite higher than the national average. Tuesday's price was one cent less than Monday's price of $3.668 per gallon. Both prices are a slight decrease from a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.698. Incidentally, a month ago, prices were nearly the same with regular gas costing residents in the district $3.70 per gallon.

    Virginia

    Gas prices in Virginia are below the national average and have been for quite some time. On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.283. This was a very slight decrease from Monday when gas was $3.287 per gallon. A week ago, regular gas cost $3.34 per gallon, and a month ago, it was $3.429 per gallon.

    Maryland

    On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland is $3.366. This was a slight decrease from Monday's price of $3.37. A week ago, gas was higher, coming in at $3.45 per gallon. A month ago, gas was even more expensive, with the average price for a gallon of gas at $3.511.

    Delaware

    The average price for a gallon of gas in the First State on Tuesday is $3.283. This was a drop from Monday's price of $3.292. A week ago, gas was more expensive, coming in at $3.383 per gallon. A month ago, a gallon of regular gas was even more expensive, coming in over 15 cents higher at $3.436 per gallon.

    Mississippi

    Mississippi remains the state with the least expensive gas in the country. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Mississippi is $2.947. This was a slight decrease from Monday's price of $2.955 per gallon. Mississippi is the only state in the country with gas prices under $3 per gallon. This has been a consistent trend in the state, with prices as far back as a month ago averaging $2.994 per gallon.

    Hawaii

    Hawaii is the state with the most expensive gas prices in the country. The average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.664 on Tuesday. This was a slight increase from Monday's price of $4.656 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas in the Aloha State cost the same as it did on Tuesday. However, a month ago, a gallon of regular gas in Hawaii was $4.693.
