WATCH LIVE: Trump hosts first outdoor rally since assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), are delivering remarks focused on national security in Asheboro, North Carolina .

Trump is expected to begin speaking at 2 p.m. from the Tar Heel State, a key swing state for his campaign.

The rally will be Trump's first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt against him at a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot in the ear and one rally attendee was killed. The former president will be speaking behind bulletproof glass at the North Carolina rally.

The Trump campaign has held events throughout the various battleground states as counter-programming to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Trump will also campaign in Arizona and Nevada on Thursday and Friday after he spoke in Michigan and Pennsylvania earlier this week.
