Former President Donald Trump reminded everyone of his New York roots when he blasted Gov. Kathy Hochul ’s (D-NY) Monday night address at the Democratic National Convention.

Both hail from the Empire State, but, as Hochul’s acid-toned speech and Trump’s feisty retort to the “very unpopular Governor” indicate, their relationship is far from friendly.

“Kathy Hochul, the very unpopular Governor of New York, was the nastiest speaker on Monday evening (at the Democrat National Convention) as it pertains to your favorite President, me,” Trump stormed in a post to Truth Social as he complained that “Her total hatred, and statements made about me, had no bounds.”

Trump’s Wednesday morning social media volley came after Hochul shared some harsh criticism about the former president to DNC attendees on the first night of the high-profile Democratic event.

“Donald Trump was born a New Yorker but ended up a fraud, a philanderer, and a felon,” the New York governor said .

Hochul is facing her own political hurdles, with her popularity hitting historic lows this year. She is navigating a feud over a congestion pricing plan she killed shortly before it was set to go into effect. The decision won her quiet applause from some but booming criticism from both sides of the aisle from a much larger section of the state.

“Trust me, America, if you think you’re tired of Donald Trump, talk to a New Yorker,” Hochul added as she mourned “78 long years [of] the fraud, the tax dodging, the Sham University, [and] the shady charities."

Trump fired back on Truth Social.

“I did a GREAT job in New York, employed thousands of people, built some of the most beautiful and successful buildings, and paid billions of dollars in taxes,” he said.

New York City’s Trump Tower, which opened in 1983, is worth nearly $500 million and occupies valuable real estate on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The former president is also known for renovating Central Park’s beloved Carousel.

Hochul also trolled the former president for his historic conviction in a New York courtroom.

“Trump hasn't spent much time in New York lately, except that is to get convicted of 34 felonies,” she said.

At the end of May, Trump became the first former president in history to be convicted of a felony crime after a New York hush money trial he described as “rigged.”

He continued to clap back at Hochul’s Democratic governance on Wednesday, saying she presided over the “biased” New York judiciary.

“With the vitriol displayed by her on Monday night, it is no wonder that the Judges have treated me so badly,” Trump said. "The whole system is RIGGED, and companies are leaving because of it!!!"

Trump allies have suggested the Biden administration rigged the New York case against the former president by transferring the lead prosecutor in the case from Washington to New York, where he worked for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat.
