Tesla CEO Elon Musk enlisted the help of a Republican adviser to increase and guide his political involvement.

Chris Young, a seasoned Republican operative who served as the national field director for the Republican National Committee during the 2016 cycle, was selected to serve in the role on Wednesday, three people familiar with the matter told the New York Times. It was suggested he would serve as a "donor-adviser" to Musk, used to control and guide his political donations.

The move comes as Musk looks to shake up his new super PAC, America PAC, which is focusing on turning out the vote for Republicans. Initial efforts suffered from problems such as poor communication and a lack of coordination, according to the New York Times, resulting in it hiring a new group to manage operations.

Young's hiring will help to continue the revamp, pushing through Musk's aim to boost Republican turnout.

Musk flirted with Republican politics for a few years during the Biden administration before fully endorsing former President Donald Trump shortly after the assassination attempt against him. He recently hosted an X Spaces interview with the former president.

Young most recently served as a senior political official at the pharmaceutical trade organization PhRMA.
