Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) revealed Monday that she has not spoken to President Joe Biden since he withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in mid-July.

Pelosi was asked about her friendship with the president when asked if there were any “hurt feelings” that occurred in Biden’s decision to drop out, with ABC's The View co-host Ana Navarro saying she had heard that first lady Jill Biden and her team were “upset” at Pelosi. When asked if she had spoken to Joe Biden at all since he suspended his 2024 reelection bid, Pelosi gave a simple “no” before explaining why her party needed “a better campaign.”

“I didn’t see us on a path to victory, so it wasn’t about him not running," Pelosi said. "It’s just, if this is the case, we have to run in a different way. The president made his decision, patriotic, selfless, the most consequential president of modern times. This has been a great president of the United States, thank you for asking. And the decision that he made was one that has, well, you see the result of it. When we win, it’s going to preserve his legacy.”

Pelosi also insisted that Vice President Kamala Harris becoming Joe Biden’s replacement in the 2024 election cycle was “an open process,” saying that any candidate could have jumped in and run to take Biden’s place. She then said that Harris was the candidate to replace Joe Biden because Harris was “politically astute.”

Last month, Pelosi reflected on a letter Joe Biden sent to congressional Democrats on July 8, in which the president maintained he would remain in the 2024 race. The former House speaker said she did not think of it “as anything but a letter” and that “it didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me.”

Biden then dropped out of the 2024 presidential race on July 21.

In the two months that have passed since Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 election cycle, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) argued that Biden could have beaten Trump had he stayed in the race . Despite this, he predicted that Harris would ultimately prevail against the former president, though the senator also predicted the election was “going to be close.”

Harris and Trump will both partake in the next presidential debate , which will air on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. ABC News will be hosting the debate, with network anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis serving as its moderators .
