Gas prices decreased again on Tuesday, with the national average for a gallon of regular gas falling to $3.261. This is a decrease from Monday’s price of $3.27. Tuesday’s price was also cheaper than this time last week, when it cost $3.325, and a month ago, when gas was $3.45. Furthermore, Tuesday’s price for regular gas is the lowest it has been since the winter.
Prices continue to fall across the country, and there are now 11 states where the average price for regular gas is below $3 per gallon: Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina, and Kansas. North Carolina is on the verge of being the 12th state, with a price of $3.001 per gallon for regular gas.

The average price for regular gas in Delaware dropped to $3.087 on Tuesday. This was a decrease from Monday's price of $3.099. It's also a decrease from last week, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.167, and a month ago, when it cost $3.441 per gallon. Gas prices in the First State continue to be the lowest in the Delmarva region.
Maryland
On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland is $3.169. This is below the national average. Tuesday's gas prices in Maryland were also less expensive than the price of gas a week ago, when it was $3.255 per gallon. Additionally, prices in Maryland are also cheaper than a month ago, when it cost $3.492 per gallon for regular gas.
Virginia
In Virginia, the price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.118 on Tuesday. This was a slight decrease from Monday, when the cost was $3.127 per gallon. Prices were also cheaper than a week ago, when it cost $3.192 per gallon, and a month ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.358. Gas prices in Virginia were the second-least expensive in the Delmarva area.
Washington, D.C.
After increasing in price on Monday, gas prices were down again on Tuesday in Washington, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas now costing $3.517. This was much more expensive than the national average. Tuesday's pricing in Washington is also cheaper than the average price of a gallon of regular gas, last week, when it cost $3.586. Additionally, gas prices today are cheaper than a month ago for Washington, D.C. residents when the price was $3.679 per gallon.

California
For the second straight day, California remains the state with the most expensive gas in the country, surpassing Hawaii. On Tuesday, the average price in the state for a gallon of regular gas is $4.734. This was higher than a week ago, when it cost $4.651 for a gallon of regular gas. It's also more expensive than a month ago, when the price for regular gas was $4.601.
Mississippi
Mississippi had the least expensive regular gas prices in the country on Tuesday, at $2.777 per gallon. Tuesday's price was a drop from last week, when a gallon of regular gas was $2.851 in Mississippi. Additionally, a month ago, gas prices were slightly higher but remained the cheapest in the nation, at $2.961 per gallon.
