    Gas prices: Another day of decreases at the pumps

    Gas prices dropped again on Wednesday as the average cost for a gallon of regular gas fell to $3.253, according to AAA .

    Wednesday’s amount marks the latest decrease in the recent trend of falling gas prices nationwide. These falling prices have resulted in twelve states where the average price for regular gas is now under $3 per gallon: North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina, and Kansas.

    Gas prices remain an important issue heading into the 2024 presidential election . With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris , now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

    While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

    Virginia

    On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.103. This was less expensive than a week ago, when it cost $3.185 per gallon for regular gas. It's also cheaper than a month ago, when gas was substantially more expensive, coming in at $3.353. Wednesday's price is also cheaper than it was a year ago, when regular gas in Virginia cost $3.564 per gallon.

    Maryland

    The average price for regular gas in Maryland dropped to $3.138 on Wednesday. This was a decrease from Tuesday's price of $3.169. It's also a decrease from last week, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.246, and a month ago, when it cost $3.475 per gallon. Prices are also much less expensive than at this time last year when the price of regular gas was $3.636.

    Delaware

    On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware is $3.05, the cheapest in the Delmarva peninsula. This price is below the national average. Tuesday's gas prices in the First State were also less expensive than the price of gas a week ago, when it was $3.255 per gallon. Additionally, prices in Delaware are also less expensive than a month ago, when it cost $3.492 per gallon for regular gas.

    Washington, D.C.

    Gas prices were down again on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., with the average price for a gallon of regular gas now costing $3.51. This is much higher than the national average. Wednesday's pricing in the nation's capital is also cheaper than the average price of a gallon of regular gas, last week, when it cost $3.574. Moreover, gas prices today are cheaper than a month ago for Washington, D.C. residents, when the price was $3.686 per gallon.

    Mississippi

    Mississippi has the least expensive regular gas prices in the country on Wednesday, at $2.768 per gallon. This price was a drop from last week, when a gallon of regular gas was $2.848 in Mississippi. Additionally, a month ago, gas prices were slightly higher but remained the cheapest in the nation, at $2.959 per gallon. Gas prices today are much less expensive than from a year ago in Mississippi, when regular gas was $3.263 per gallon.

    California

    California remains the state with the most expensive gas in the country on Wednesday with the average price for a gallon of regular gas at $4.749. This was higher than a week ago, when it cost $4.654 for a gallon of regular gas. It's also more expensive than a month ago, when the price for regular gas was $4.601. A year ago, gas prices were substantially more expensive, with the average price for regular gas costing $5.439 per gallon.
