Trump declares there will not be a third debate days after contest against Harris

Former President Donald Trump stamped out the possibility of another 2024 presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris .

"When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I WANT A REMATCH,'" Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday. "Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate."

"She was a no-show at the Fox debate, and refused to do NBC and CBS," he added. "KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!"

The Harris campaign called for a second debate in a statement from Chairwoman Jen O'Malley Dillon immediately after the conclusion of Tuesday's meeting between Trump and the vice president on ABC News in Philadelphia .

“Under the bright lights, the American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris, or going backwards with Trump," O'Malley Dillon wrote. "That’s what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October. Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?"

Harris reiterated her call during her first post-debate rally in Charlotte, North Carolina .

Trump has equivocated on the likelihood of a second debate between himself and Harris after originally accepting a meeting on Fox News on Sept. 4 and ABC News on Sept. 10, in addition to NBC News on Sept. 25. Harris has only accepted the ABC News debate so far.

Meanwhile, Trump has advocated Fox News opinion anchors Sean Hannity, Jesse Watters, or Laura Ingraham to moderate a debate instead of Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, whom the network had pitched for its iteration.

There has been disagreement between the respective campaigns about the NBC debate, with the Harris camp hoping the next meeting would be between the vice presidents, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), on CBS News on Oct. 1.
