Vance says it would be ‘very hard’ to win election without North Carolina

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) said it would be "very hard" for him and former President Donald Trump to win the election in November if they lose North Carolina .

Shortly before attending a college football game in Greenville, North Carolina, on Saturday, Vance told reporters, "It’s very hard for us to win unless we’re able to get North Carolina."

He added that he feels "very good" about their chances in the key battleground state. Both are holding rallies in the Tar Heel State next week, with Vance in Raleigh and Trump in Wilmington.

The comment from Vance comes after Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC) said that Vice President Kamala Harris "knows" if she wins North Carolina, she will be president.

"There’s no question about it. It’s close here in North Carolina. It always is. This was Biden-Harris’s closest loss in 2020, only 1.3%. So, the fact that Kamala Harris, as vice president of the United States, has been to North Carolina 17 times shows that she cares about our state. She knows that we are in play. And she knows that if she wins North Carolina, she is the next president of the United States because [former President Donald] Trump has no other pathway," he said.

Trump won North Carolina in 2020 by just under 75,000 votes over then-candidate Joe Biden, and this November the state is poised to be just as tight.

The latest polling from RealClearPolitics shows that Trump leads Harris in a head-to-head race by just 0.1% in the state, 48.1% to 48%.
