New York Mayor Eric Adams pleaded not guilty to corruption and bribery charges brought against him earlier this week, as calls for him to resign from office grow.

Federal prosecutors charged Adams in a five-count indictment earlier this week, including one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals; one count of wire fraud; two counts of solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national; and one count of bribery. He pleaded not guilty Friday at a federal courthouse in New York.

Adams is the first sitting New York mayor to be indicted and has faced calls to resign from office from both Republicans and Democrats. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who represents parts of Manhattan, called on the mayor to resign in a statement Friday.
