Trump’s visit to hurricane-affected Georgia is so he can ‘personally offer’ help

Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the former president’s visit to Georgia is being made because he wants to “personally offer” his help to those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Former President Donald Trump is set to visit Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday afternoon, putting him ahead of both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in visiting hurricane-affected locations. Leavitt noted how it is “absurd” how Biden is not making an active effort to help the hurricane victims, and that it contrasts to how Trump is showing “real leadership” with his visit.

“We’re going to Valdosta, Georgia, and President Trump is a leader, and leaders lead, and he has such a heart for the people of this country who are struggling,” Leavitt said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends. “You know, we talked about this extensively on the plane yesterday. He was taking calls about it, watching the news coverage of it, trying to really understand the extent of the damage from this hurricane. Obviously, there’s only so much he can do. He’s not in power right now, but he wants to make a point to be there to hear from people and to personally offer his help as well.”

Trump spoke about the effects of Hurricane Helene at the start of his Sunday rally in Pennsylvania , sending his “love and prayers” to victims of the storm. He then accused Biden of “sleeping” and Harris of holding fundraising while several parts of the country have been battered by the hurricane.

Leavitt also rebuked recent comments by former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who said the First Amendment is a “major block” to prevent disinformation. The press secretary argued that his comments show how the 2024 election is a choice between “freedom and communism” and warned a hypothetical Harris presidency would lead to mass censorship .

When asked about the vice presidential debate between Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Leavitt assured that Vance is “well prepared” for Tuesday night’s event. She added that it will be “a big night” for Walz due to how the governor will have to answer for Harris’s “dangerously liberal record.”

Vance will be attending an event in Georgia on Friday, a few days after Trump’s visit to the Peach State. Trump, meanwhile, will be attending an event in North Carolina, another state that was greatly damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Both Biden and Harris have spoken with officials from the hurricane-affected states over the weekend. Monday morning, the president announced he plans to visit North Carolina later this week to tour the damage.
