Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy argued Wednesday that Vice President Kamala Harris selected Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate because he “most reminds her” of President Joe Biden .

McCarthy said Harris's campaign is “incapable of knowing what they're doing,” citing Walz’s performance at the first and only vice presidential debate. The former House speaker said most of the campaign's problems stem from Harris seeking the presidency while fulfilling her vice presidential duties, including helping those affected by Hurricane Helene.

“The one thing that that debate last night answered for me, why did she pick Tim Walz?” McCarthy said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “He most reminds her of Joe Biden. It’s the only other way I watched it.”

Regarding the hurricane, McCarthy criticized both Biden and Harris for their lack of action in providing relief to the storm’s victims. He suggested that if he were in Biden's or Harris's position, he would put aside his other duties and instead focus on helping the hurricane victims on the ground.

The former House speaker was also very critical of the $750 that the Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing to victims , adding that “the worst” part of this is how Harris did not know how much the relief was going to be and “had to read it.”

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) has called on congressional leaders for an emergency special session to provide disaster relief to those affected . Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) has also argued that Congress should not have taken recess without first passing legislation to ensure FEMA was properly funded.

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), who is assisting in the recovery-and-rescue efforts in North Carolina, has stated that FEMA is short on resources due to its role in “immigration resettlement,” referencing how the Department of Homeland Security, through FEMA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, provided $300 million in grants to communities to resettle immigrants . On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters that FEMA is running out of money for hurricane season.
