President Joe Biden said that U.S. officials are actively "discussing" retaliatory options for Israel following the missile strikes carried out by Iran earlier this week but suggested that no such response would occur on Thursday.

Biden, departing the White House Thursday morning, fielded questions from reporters and gave a brief update on the evolving situation in the Middle East .

"We’re discussing that," he responded when asked if he would support Israel striking Iran's oil infrastructure.

"I think that would be a little," Biden continued before abruptly halting his answer and moving to the next question.

Reporters pressed the president on whether or not he would permit an Israeli response, to which he answered, "First of all, we don't 'allow' Israel" to do anything.

"We advise Israel. And there is nothing going to happen today," Biden concluded.
