The Supplemental Security Income check for November, worth up to $943 for individual filers, will be sent out to eligible recipients in 26 days.

SSI payments will be issued to eligible citizens on Nov. 1, in accordance with the agency's mandate that recipients receive these monthly benefits by the first day of the month. The payments are given to those living with debilitating disabilities that may affect their income.

The amount that SSI checks are worth for beneficiaries depends on their status. Individuals can receive monthly payments of $914, and eligible couples can receive $1,415 in payments per month. Essential persons, who are people who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, can receive monthly payments of $472 from the program.

This requirement for recipients to get their checks by the first of the month means that when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the Social Security Administration issues SSI checks the business day prior. For the remainder of 2024, this will happen for the payment scheduled for December. It will also happen multiple times in 2025.

The SSA sent the first SSI payments to recipients in January 1974, and payment rates have been adjusted in line with the cost of living since 1975, according to the agency.

SSI checks are different from other payments, including regular retirement checks, sent out by the SSA.

Regular Social Security payments, which are mainly for retirees, are issued on a different schedule each month from SSI payments, with the day a check is sent out depending on the recipient's date of birth. Those retirement checks are sent in three waves each month.
