Musk PAC offers $47 for every swing-state voter referral to sign free speech petition

Elon Musk is trying to boost the number of swing-state voters by paying people to sign a petition saying they will support free speech and the Second Amendment.

The petition doesn't register people to vote or require anyone to show up at a polling place on Election Day. To boost support for voting, Musk's America PAC is offering $47 for every referral that results in a signature via his pro-Trump super PAC .

Only voters in swing states — Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Carolina — are eligible for the payments, and they must refer people by Oct. 21. That deadline is the final day voters in Pennsylvania and Michigan can register to vote if they want to cast a ballot in November.

America PAC has also hired canvassers in swing states.

Signers of the petition would be pledging their support for the First and Second amendments, which have been Musk's cited reasons for endorsing former President Donald Trump.

Musk said this November will be "the most important election in our lifetime" in an interview with the Washington Examiner.

"Our goal is to get 1 million registered voters in swing states to sign in support of the Constitution, especially freedom of speech and the right to bear arms," the website reads.

While the petition requires an email address and a cellphone number to sign it, the website promises to use the number only "to confirm you are the legitimate petition signer. No other purpose."

Musk joined Trump onstage during his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. The event marked Trump's first time back in Butler, Pennsylvania, since the July 13 assassination attempt there, which prompted Musk's public endorsement.
