Byron York contends Harris’s 60 Minutes appearance was her first ‘adversarial’ interview

Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York argued that Vice President Kamala Harris’s appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes was the first “adversarial” interview he had seen her do and that it was a “disaster.”

Harris’s appearance on 60 Minutes has been largely criticized , specifically for avoiding giving direct answers to questions. York noted that interviewer Bill Whitaker asked the vice president follow-up questions when she “failed” to initially answer them.

“First of all, I thought it was just a disastrous interview,” York said on The Hugh Hewitt Show. “I thought her weakest parts were on the border and the portion that you played on Ukraine in which she just appeared to have no idea what to do in Ukraine and didn’t even say, ‘Well, I know what to do in Ukraine, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to talk about it.’”

Another topic Harris failed to properly address, York contended, was inflation and its impact. York suggested that the vice president's discussion of unemployment going down instead of answering the question gave viewers the impression she was saying, “I don’t want to talk about that.”

York also assessed Harris’s campaign promise to offer first-time home buyers a $25,000 credit, arguing that her platform is “giving people stuff.” He then argued that these credits being promoted to buy expensive items will only make these items even more expensive and that they are “the bulk of her program.”

When asked about the impact Hurricane Milton could have on Florida’s voter turnout in the 2024 elections, York said it is too early to properly assess it, adding that the storm has “got to be a big worry.” Milton’s anticipated landfall this week comes right after Hurricane Helene tore through North Carolina and several other states. Some have suggested that voter turnout could be dampened thanks to Helene.

Former President Donald Trump, Harris’s opponent in the 2024 presidential election, opted not to do a sit-down interview with 60 Minutes, with the program stating last week that it had offered to do one with him . Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley explained last week that the former president would not partake in “an ambush interview.”

Trump did, however, conduct a phone interview Monday with The Hugh Hewitt Show , which was largely about the state of Israel on the one-year anniversary of the Hamas terrorist group’s attack on the country. The former president argued that Israel is “entitled to an attack” on Iran’s nuclear sites because the latter country has attacked the former twice this year and that Israel needs to “get smart” about supporting him.
