There's a state park a little more than an hour outside of New York City called Donald Trump State Park, and there's a movement for the park to have its name changed.

Trump donated the 436-acre park in Westchester and Putnam counties to the state of New York in 2006, and in exchang e, the park was named after him.

But in recent years, with Trump's full emergence onto the political stage, state lawmakers and a progressive group have worked to have the park's name changed. The group, MoveOn, said it started the petition a year ago, and it has amassed nearly 110,000 signatures.

And Democratic Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, along with Democratic State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, introduced a bill last year that would change the park's name.

“People really are offended when they’re driving around and they have to see the name of the former president on the name of a state park,” Levenberg told Politico, citing a constituent survey she conducted last year on the topic. “It just turns people’s stomachs.”

While New York overwhelmingly voted against Trump in the past two elections, the park is located in a region represented by Republicans. Republican Assemblymember Matt Slater, whose district falls in the park, noted that neither host community has requested that the park's name be changed.
