Netanyahu targeted by Hezbollah drone: Israeli PM escapes grisly fate as weapon explodes near private home

A drone attack was launched at Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ’s home in Caesarea, Israel, according to the prime minister's office, in what is believed to be an assassination attempt against Israel's leader.

“A UAV was launched towards the prime minister’s residence in Caesarea,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. “The prime minister and his wife were not at the location and there were no injuries in the incident.”

The Israeli military said earlier that a drone was launched from Lebanon , hitting a building in the area of Caesarea. Three drones were sent in total, with two being intercepted. There are no recorded casualties.

The strike is being seen as an assassination attempt against the Israeli leader, who has been steadfast in his pursuit to ensure the safety of his nation's citizens and root out the organizations seeking to harm Israel.

Along with Hamas , Israel has been fighting the U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon, having killed the group's leader just weeks ago. Hezbollah did not take credit for the targeted attack on the Prime Minister's home.

Israel's military also reported approximately 180 projectiles fired from Lebanon on Saturday morning, killing one and injuring four people. On Friday, Hezbollah announced it would begin sending more guided missiles and exploding drones into Israel.

The attack comes just days after Israel Defense Forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the believed mastermind behind the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which killed roughly 1,200 Israelis. Hamas took more than 240 people hostage as well.

It is unclear whether Sinwar's death will lead to a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which pounded Gaza with strikes on Saturday. Over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed since the Oct. 7 massacre, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

Caesarea is in the center of the country, north of Tel Aviv.
