One person escaped the Saturday afternoon crash on the Eastern Shore, but one person was killed, Virginia State Police reported.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:30 pm in the Bloxom area. According to VSP, 26-year-old Radain Alberto Tomas Isidro was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz heading east on Guards Shore Rd. when he ran off the road. The car flipped over into the marsh then rolled over in the marsh.

VSP said the passenger compartment of the vehicle was left submerged in about 4 feet of water.

The passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was able to escape and only suffered minor injuries. But Isidro couldn’t escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It does not appear that speed was a contributing factor, said VSP. But authorities haven’t determined if alcohol was a contributing factor.
