Hit & run on the Eastern Shore kills 66-year-old pedestrian

Virginia State Police is investigating a hit and run crash in Accomack that claimed the life of 66-year-old Peter L. Lancho of Greenbackville.

The incident occurred late Saturday night at the intersection of Lankford Highway and Main Street in the Melfa area. VSP said troopers responded to the scene at approximately 11:44 p.m.

Preliminary investigations show Lancho was in the southbound travel lanes when he was hit by a dark colored sedan, VSP stated. That unknown vehicle didn’t stop and reportedly continued south on Lankford Highway.

Authorities said Lancho was killed died upon impact.

There were witnesses at the scene, according to VSP, and those individuals are now working with the State Police in an effort to identify the sedan.
