Body found in Southampton identified as Emporia woman

Southampton Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the woman found dead last Wednesday: Chasidy Dawn Wilburn, a 40-year-old Emporia resident.

According to SCSO, a call came in around 2 p.m. reporting an unresponsive woman on lying on Angelico Road South. When officers responded, they found a white female in the roadway approximately one mile from the intersection of Cedar View Road.

EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene at 2:27 p.m., SCSO confirmed. And the department added the woman had an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

The woman’s body was transported to the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk for an autopsy and identification. SCSO said her identification was determined the day after she was found but her name wasn’t being released because authorities were still attempting to notify her family.

The investigation is still underway, and SCSO is urging anyone with information to contact Detective T. Sherman at (757) 653-2100 to make an anonymous tip by calling Franklin-Southampton Crime Solvers at (757) 516-7100 or using www.p3tips.com.

Information that leads to an arrest will be eligible for a cash reward, SCSO stated.
