Bacon, pancakes tossed at Loudon restaurant during inspection

LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) — A restaurant in Loudon County that serves breakfast and lunch meals had over a dozen violations marked down during a health inspection.

The grade is a 63 at Angie’s Kitchen on Grove Street in Loudon. Traditionally, Angie’s Kitchen receives good grades. The restaurant scored 100 in June 2023.

The inspector wrote that he observed an employee chewing tobacco in the kitchen area. Health rules say workers can’t smoke or chew tobacco in the kitchen.

Another employee was observed touching ready-to-eat bacon and pancakes with his bare hands. However, gloves are required to be worn whenever employees handle food. One pound of bacon and pancakes were tossed.

When the inspector checked the date of first use marked on the potato salad, the date had expired by several days. To assure wholesomeness, refrigerated ready-to-eat food is generally discarded after seven days in the fridge.

There’s more. Food temperatures were off. In the cooler, sliced deli turkey and provolone sliced cheese were at 51 degrees, but 41 and below is the safe cool temperature to slow bacteria growth. Three pounds of cheese and two pounds of deli meat were tossed as a result.

Green beans in the hot holding cabinet were at 92 degrees, but 135 plus is the required hot temperature.

The lip of the ice machine had grime buildup around it and a can opener blade that should have been clean had grime on it.

Now, the inspector returned to Angie’s Kitchen in Loudon. All of the original critical violations were corrected. The new re-inspected grade is a 91.
