Vols earn No.1 overall seed in NCAA tournament

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – The road to Omaha will run through Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Vols will be the No.1 overall seed in this year’s NCAA tournament after capturing both the SEC regular season championship , as well as the SEC Tournament title .

Tennessee baseball is hosting a regional for the third time in four years under Head Coach Tony Vitello.

The Vols will welcome Northern Kentucky, Indiana and Southern Miss this weekend. A rematch of last year’s Super Regionals is potentially on the horizon as Tennessee defeated the Golden Eagles last season to advance to the College World Series.

Tennessee enters the NCAA tournament after fighting its way through the losers bracket of the SEC Tournament in Hoover. After losing the first game of the tournament to Vanderbilt, Tennessee picked up four straight wins to claim its second tournament championship in three years.
