    Maryville motorcyclist killed in Alcoa Highway crash

    ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — A Maryville man died following a crash along Alcoa Highway on Monday morning.

    Alcoa Police officers responded to a crash with injuries on Alcoa Highway at Hillside Drive at 7:21 a.m. where a man was found lying next to his motorcycle. Russell Swanson Jr. 44, of Maryville, was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

    The driver of the other vehicle in the crash was cited for failure to yield.

    Based on a preliminary investigation, Swanson was riding his motorcycle in the left lane of northbound Alcoa Highway when a vehicle attempted to merge into the center median at Hillside Drive. His motorcycle collided with the back left side of the merging vehicle.

    An investigation remains ongoing. The Alcoa Police Department requests anyone with information or video of the crash to please call 865-981-4111 and ask to speak with Lieutenant Daniel Brooks or Master Police Officer Adam Stephens.
