Man accused of shooting two Blount County deputies to face grand jury

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man facing multiple charges after two Blount County deputies were injured in a shooting will have to face a grand jury, Fifth Judicial Attorney General Ryan Desmond announced.

Ronald Reed Millsaps was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, attempted criminal homicide, especially aggravated kidnapping, and reckless endangerment after a standoff at a home in the Rockford area on June 11. He was arraigned on June 17 .

Millsaps appeared in court again on August 20 for a preliminary hearing where his case was bound over to a grand jury.

On June 11, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a home in the 1100 block of Jacob Springs Boulevard in the Rockford area to assist on a call reporting shots fired. According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Millsaps fired shots at responding deputies and struck two deputies , who were rescued and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. After a standoff, Millsaps was eventually taken into custody around 5 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Blount County Sheriff’s Office released that BCSO deputies have responded to domestic calls at the home on three different occasions in the past year – in July 2023, November 2023, and February 2024 – but Millsaps had not been arrested in Blount County before June 11.
