CLINTON, Tenn. (WATE) — Powell and Anderson County met for the sixth year in a row and the fireworks were on full display. Anderson County quarterback Landen Hensley finish the day with 184 yards and three touchdowns in the Mavericks 28-25 win.

Anderson County was forced to punt on its first drive, but the Panthers fumbled the ball on the ensuing punt. That set up the Mavericks for a short touchdown run by Waylon Ralue.

Powell marched down the field and answered with a field goal. Landen Hensley led the Mavericks down the field again and capped the drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Israel Small to put AC up 14-3.

Powell chipped away at the lead in the second half. On third and 23, Deuce Rodgers delivered a 36-yard dart to DeZion Jackson for the score.

Anderson County continued to keep its distance. Hensley hit Elijah Johnson over the middle for a 10-yard touchdown and a 21-10 advantage.

Late in the third quarter, Rodgers threw his second touchdown pass. This time he was on the run when he found Westin Williams over the middle to trim the Mavericks’ lead to four.

Hensley kept his squad calm. His third touchdown of the night was a 41-yard pass to Riley Wolfenbarger.

Rodgers continued to have the answers. With 4:01 left in the contest, the Panthers’ quarterback tucked the ball and housed an 18-yard run. He tacked on a two-point conversion to pull Powell within three.

The Panthers were never able to get the ball back. Anderson County ran the clock out to pick up its first win of the season.

UP NEXT: Anderson County will make the trek to face Science Hill on August 30. Powell will clash with Farragut on Aug. 30.
