    Jefferson City Police investigating assault complaints involving substitute teacher

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A substitute teacher at Jefferson Elementary School has been placed on leave pending the outcome of investigations into “allegations involving inappropriate conduct,” the director of Jefferson County Schools said on Friday.

    The Jefferson City Police Department said Friday it is investigating assault complaints made against the substitute teacher after allegations from parents and students.

    “The incident allegedly occurred during school hours on 22 August,” JCPD stated in a media release on Friday. “JCPD investigators and school district authorities are working diligently to determine what happened.”

    We have received reports of allegations involving inappropriate conduct of a substitute teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. Department of Children’s Services, police department, and the school district are investigating these allegations. The employee has been placed on leave pending the outcome of investigations. We have no further comment at this time.

    6 News has obtained the personnel file of the substitute teacher at the center of the investigation. The substitute teacher has been with the Jefferson County School System since 2022. The file shows that the school system did a thorough background check and to date, there were no reprimands in the file.

    JCPD added that once the investigation is complete, the findings will be shared with the district attorney general’s office.
