SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Lifesaving technology helped search crews find a missing 93-year-old woman. Crews found the woman nearly two hours after she went missing in the middle of an overgrown field pushing her walker.

Video sent to 6 News’ sister station, WKRN, from Sumner County Emergency Agency, shows the woman walking in the field, not far from her home.

According to the emergency management director, Ken Weidner, her family said she has Alzheimer’s and went missing about an hour and a half before they called for help.

However, he said once EMA put up their drone, they were able to locate her within minutes and reunite her with her family.

“Oh my gosh, they were exuberant. They were so happy and when we got back around, they were hugging her and happy that she was ok,” Weidner said.

Weidner said this is just one example of the lifesaving tool that has helped in several cases. “That’s actually our 12th recovery, either missing persons or suicidal persons.”

He said, on top of that, they use the drone to help law enforcement find fugitives.

“We go to the SWAT teams and find barricaded suspects. We have a solid team with good equipment and our goal is to go find everyone that we go look for,” Weidner said.
