Woman in critical condition after assault, sheriff’s office investigating

NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a reported assault that left a woman in critical condition in the Shawanee community near Harrogate on Wednesday.

Sheriff Bob Brooks said that on Wednesday, Aug. 28 CCSO officers responded to reports of an assault at a residence in the Shawanee community in Harrogate, which is in North Claiborne County near the state line.

“The victim, a white female was discovered with life-threatening injuries,” Brooks said. “The female was transported by emergency services from the scene and remains in critical condition.”

No further details were yet available. The incident is being investigated by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
