    Knoxville man charged with attempted murder after assault victim hospitalized

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville man is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge after an assault victim was hospitalized with serious injuries on Sunday.

    Detectives are investigating an assault that occurred at a home in the 1000 block of Morrell Road. Jeinson Hernandez-Moran , 26, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder. He has been booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.

    An arrest narrative claims that around 10:45 a.m. on September 1, Hernandez-Moran attacked the victim. A witness told police that he watched Hernandez-Moran hit the victim several times in the head with a pick-axe.

    On scene, officers reportedly found the victim lying in his bed with the pick-axe embedded in his skull. Hernandez-Moran turned himself in to officers at the scene according to the report.

    A KPD spokesperson said in an update released at 9 p.m. that the victim remains hospitalized at the University of Tennessee Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
