SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a home invasion resulted in a fatal shooting, Sheriff Tommy Jones said.

According to Jones, deputies were dispatched to the invasion that happened at a home on Brunner Road in Sweetwater early Thursday morning.

Investigators believe that the unknown invader was forced from the home as the residents waited for law enforcement to arrive, but then re-entered the home where other members of the household were. Jones said the home owner then shot the invader, who later died.
