KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville Police investigators are still searching for answers in a murder case that happened nearly 17 years ago.

According to Knoxville Police, on September 15, 2007, investigators responded to a call reporting a body had been found in a secluded area on Hoitt Avenue near Boone Street. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Jennifer Leeanne Law’s body partially burned in an alley.

In a 2020 video shared by Knoxville Police, Ciera Law, the victim’s daughter, explained that their family had just been at the fair the night before their murder. She said her mother mainly went by Leeanne, and her father was the one to tell her about her mother’s death.

“My father pulled us in the room and told us that we no longer had a mother, that she had passed away,” Ciera Law said in the video. “I remember dropping to my knees… Screaming, yelling…”

A KPD investigator, Clayton Madison, explained in the video that Law had bruises on her face and arms that were consistent with a struggle. Her cause of death was determined to be strangulation, and her body was burned after she died.

Madison shared that it was known Law frequented “areas of high narcotics” and trafficking, and she reportedly had a dealer who went by the name of “Black.” It was also reported that Law may have last been seen in a black truck or a gold Toyota Carola.

Law’s daughter also explained in the video that while her mother may have struggled with substance abuse, she was also a mother, sister, and daughter who loved her family.

“She wasn’t just some girl running around on the streets, ya know, she did love us and she showed us that up until the day she died,” Ciera Law said.
