    Construction impacting East Tennessee roads this weekend: What to know

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From construction projects to events, WATE’s Bo Williams has what drivers in East Tennessee need to know in this week’s upcoming road work livestream.

    Rolling roadblocks on Alcoa Highway will impact drivers through Saturday, September 7. TDOT shared that the roadblocks will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail. Click here to learn more.

    TDOT released its weekly construction report for September 6 through September 11 to share any ongoing or upcoming construction projects across the 24 East Tennessee counties.

    Two block parties in Downtown Knoxville will close Gay Street between Jackson and Vine Avenues and Jackson Avenue between N. Central and State Streets to motorized vehicles from 4 to 10 p.m. The same section of Jackson Avenue will take place on Sunday, September 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Old City Market.

    Sections of Little River Road will be closed on September 10 and 12 for National Park Service crews to finish needed roadside work. On September 10, Little River Road from the Townsend Wye to Metcalf Bottoms will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon. Wears Valley Road (US 321) between Townsend and Line Springs Road can be used as a detour. On September 12, Little River Road from Metcalf Bottoms to the Elkmont Road juncture will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon and Wears Valley Road between Line Springs Road and Pigeon Forge can used a a detour.

    Fall events around East Tennessee 2024

    A cross-country running event is also set to impact traffic near Walters State Community College, 1720 Old Newport Highway, during the afternoon and evening hours of September 9 and September 10. The city of Sevierville shared that heavy traffic is expected around Old Newport Highway, Highway 416/Pittman Center Road, and Ernest McMahan Road. Anyone in the area is told to expect delays, consider alternate routes, and watch for pedestrians.
