Porch pirate sentenced for stealing medical supplies, items for cancer patient

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man pleaded guilty and has been sentenced after stealing packages from the front porches of two victims in July 2023, the Knox County District Attorney said.

According to DA Charme Allen’s office, Juan Cheves Kizer pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and theft on July 15, 2024. A spokesperson for Allen’s office confirmed to 6 News that Kizer was sentenced Thursday to serve 15 years in prison, consecutive with a 10-year sentence out of Jefferson County.

During the sentencing hearing, a prosecutor explained to the judge that on July 4 and 6, 2023, Kier stole packages from the front porches of two separate victims. One of those victims was at a cancer treatment center in Texas where her daughter was undergoing treatment when Kizer stole items that the victim had ordered for the child.

The DA’s office said the other victim worked in the medical profession, and Kizer stole medical supplies from their porch. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was able to use home security cameras to identify Kizer and take him into custody.

In July 2023, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said it was searching for more potential victims after Kizer reportedly admitted to stealing “a large quantity” of medical supplies. According to KCSO, Kizer took detectives to where he had stored the items, worth a total of approximately $54,650. The items were later returned to the victims.
