KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Fire Department responded to a trash fire at Neyland Stadium Tuesday morning, which was later determined to have been caused by a torch cutting metal.
Crews arrived at the scene after the Knox County Emergency Communications District received a call about a “small rubbish fire” in the area of Gate 15 at 10:37 a.m. When they arrived, KFD said they could see light smoke from the gate area, and then they located the fire inside a mechanical room just off the entrance.
The firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No mechanical equipment was damaged, but the room sustained some smoke and fire damage.
KFD said no injuries were reported, and the smoke and fire alarms sounded as designed.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by “hot work.” A spokesperson clarified to 6 News that the work in question was a torch cutting metal on level two of the stadium.
