KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Stone Memorial’s Maddox Oquendo is the Pella Player of the Week for week three.

Oquendo managed two touchdowns and an interception while putting together 80 yards off five carries and 111 yards receiving.

Even more impressive, the senior’s effort on the ground comes out to a whopping 16 yards per carry and nearly 30 yards per catch.

Being a dual threat as a receiver and running back is something that has benefitted Oquendo throughout his time with the Panthers, “It’s good being versatile you know a lot of times when teams game plan against your team and you as well they always have linebackers and corners but when you’re able to get those weaknesses and hit those pinpoints, it’s a great thing.

Oquendo can do both, but he prefers the ground game, “Personally I like playing running back more I think it’s jus the being able to get the ball and it’s your choice at the end of the day, I mean you’re following your blocks and everything but you’re not really like a defenseless receiver.

Next up for Oquendo and the Panthers is White County. Stone Memorial hosts the Warriors at 7 p.m. on Friday.
