    Events, construction impacting East Tennessee roads this weekend: What to know

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From Rod Run in Pigeon Forge to a UT game at Neyland, 6 News’ Bo Williams has what drivers in East Tennessee need to know for the weekend in this week’s upcoming road work stream.

    The Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run will run through September 14. The Pigeon Forge Police Department warns those going through the city that there will be heavy traffic congestion. The department added that it may take hours to go through the area and urged people to be patient and observant.

    The University of Tennessee will face Kent State on Sept. 14 at 7:45 p.m. at Neyland Stadium . Those in the area of the stadium and Downtown Knoxville should be aware of increased traffic through the afternoon and evening.

    TDOT has released its weekly construction report for Sept. 13 through Sept. 18 to share any ongoing or upcoming construction projects across the 24 East Tennessee counties.

    There will also be lane closures on North Broadway between Central Street and Mineral Springs Avenue between Sept. 12-18 . The City of Knoxville shared that the temporary lane closures will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and drivers are urged to use caution in the area. The closures come as a project to replace curb ramps at multiple crosswalks begins. The city shared that activity related to the project is expected to continue through September, with crews starting grading/paving operations in early October.

    Lane closures on a section of Highway 416/Old Newport in Sevierville are scheduled through October 10 . The Sevierville Police Department shared that daily lane closure will be from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Contractors are placing a sewer line that requires closures on the bridge between Ernest McMahan Road and Jim Hickman Drive.

    The Newport Police Department also shared that part of Cope Boulevard/Lisega Boulevard will be closed for six months starting on Monday, September 16. To find out more about the closure, click here.
