    Knoxville Police investigate shooting off of Asheville Highway

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened off of Asheville Highway Friday evening.

    A spokesperson for the police department confirmed to 6 News that officers were investigating a shooting that happened around 7:45 p.m. at the Kwik Pantry Food Mart, located at 4800 Asheville Highway.

    KPD reported that a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg was found at the scene. Knoxville police said the man was taken to UT Medical Center, but his injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.

    Investigators believe that the shooting happened during some kind of conflict involving the victim and two male suspects happened in the store. Knoxville Police said one of the suspect fired at the victim multiple times, and both suspects left the scene before officers arrived.

    Knoxville Police said investigators are working to identify and locate the suspects. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.
